There’s a Salon article today about the next generation of video game consoles, including the Playstation 2, the Sega Dreamcast (already out), the Nintendo system code-named Dolphin, and a mystery offering from Microsoft. The article is very detailed, and lays out the positions of each of the players clearly. Fascinating stuff.

AOL is pumping 800 million bucks into Gateway in return for taking over their ISP business. As always, there’s more to it than that, but the crux of the deal is the 600,000 gateway.net subscribers. At least they’re not making them all switch to AOL.

The Atlantic Monthly has an online article about weblogs. It discusses the history of weblogs (as told by the writer), and the growing number of webloggers writing blurbs for epinions.com. None of these weblog articles ever mention rc3.org, but I’m dealing with it. Oh wait, I forgot the one that said rc3.org is “kind of boring.” Perhaps it’s better that this site goes unmentioned.

If you like epinions.com, you’ll love the Earth edition of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Actually, I don’t know how closely related the two really are, but they do seem to share the purpose of allowing the common man to publish blurbs.

The Encyclopedia Britannica has stopped charging for access to the online version of their encyclopedia. Unfortunately, the site is broken right now so you can’t get in.

The George Bush campaign migrated its Web site from Unix to NT, and was defaced the very next day. Suckers.

Version 3.3 of the Palm OS is available for download.

Microsoft is trying to make my SQL book obsolete with the Access Workflow Designer for SQL Server. (I’m just joking. The more people who use relational databases, the better it is for me.)

Andrew Leonard reminds us today that whenever they’re given the opportunity, car salesmen will take the low road.
