Look, another K-Tel today. What happens when a nobody acquires a Linux-related nobody? A 76% jump in WAVT‘s share price in morning trading!

When I read this essay only one thought comes to mind — our educational system really is going to Hell in a handbasket if a composition that bad merits an A- in an AP English class.

A watchful reader reports that iEntertainment Network K-Teled last week. After the announcement of a co-branded gaming site with Red Hat, the stock market rewarded IENT with 89 percent gain.

The Columbia Journalism Review has a nice rundown of who owns what in the media world. It’s presented in a boring format, but the information is there.

After a discussion about mod_perl yesterday, I started looking for interesting resources on the Web. Of course, the main mod_perl site is perl.apache.org. Of particular interest is this document describing some real world configurations you can use with mod_perl.

Microsoft has settled its case with Caldera, that litigious company that bought DR-DOS just so that they could sue (they’re also in the Linux business). Back of the envelope calculations indicate that the settlement cost Microsoft around 150 million bucks. Caldera also filed for a 57.5 million dollar IPO. Thanks to the bucks their lawsuit brought in, they’ll probably have the highest price to earnings ratio of any Linux or Internet company in the foreseeable future.

Scott Rosenberg has written a really insightful column on the big merger, as well. I don’t know how these guys turn out such good material with no lead time. Nice work.

Dan Gillmor describes the fears many of us have about the AOL/Time Warner merger in his e-journal today. The thought of AOL ultimately calling the shots at CNN and magazines like Time is chilling.

The whole investigation of the Chinese spy scandal at Los Alamos stinks. Come to find out, the FBI deliberately lied to Wen Ho Lee in the process of shaking him down, NYPD Blue style.
