Strong opinions, weakly held

If you’re running IIS 5.0, you really need to patch the Internet Printing Protocol hole ASAP. It’s turned on by default and contains an exploitable buffer overflow that allows your server to be compromised.

Just from the coverage I’ve seen so far, it appears that the federal appeals court hearing the film industry’s case against 2600 is going to uphold the earlier ruling that posting DeCSS violates the DMCA, and more importantly, that the DMCA is not unconstitutional. That’s very frustrating.

Word from Salon is that David Talbot was misquoted in the NY Times article I linked to earlier today. They’re not looking at going to an all pay model next year at that price or any other.

Bitter, party of one.

They’re screwing us again. Apparently the Baby Bells have bribed some Congressmen to introduce a bill that will put the Internet under the same regulatory umbrella as the rest of the services that the RBOCs have monopolized. That sounds like consumer-friendly legislation.
