The Economist has a good pro-immigration editorial this week.

Declan McCullagh: Microsoft Still Faces Feds’ Regs. The proposed remedies listed in the article seem really stupid to me. I’m not in favor of breaking up Microsoft, but I feel that some structural remedy is required in this situation, the conduct-based remedies are just bizarre. I’m much more in favor of doing something harsh to them and then walking away and seeing what happens.

Why are there MSN links across the top of the ESPN Web site these days? Did Microsoft take over some Go.com properties?

Molly Ivins justly smacks around those who preach mindless deregulation in her latest column.

Gamasutra has published its first salary survey for the game industry. It’s always strange to look at the charts and realize that I’m moving into the ones that represent people with more years of experience. I don’t think of myself as someone who’s done as many tours of duty in this industry as I have.

There are reports that Great Bridge, the company building a commercial business around PostgreSQL, is shutting down. I reported back on May 10, 2000 that investors had pumped $25 million into the company. Holy burn rate, Batman!

I installed Mozilla .93 on my computer at work, and it doesn’t work at all. It launches, but I can’t get it to open any Web pages, whether I type them into the address box or try to select one of the preset bookmarks. Oh, well. I’ll try .94.

It shouldn’t surprise you that Department of Justice is no longer seeking to break up Microsoft. All those corporate contributions to Republican candidates have to count for something, right?
