Time’s Alex Perry has a full recap of the prison revolt at Qala-i-Jangi in this week’s issue. The transcript of his satellite phone call from the fortress on the day of the revolt was the first on the scene report that I found. His followup piece provides a ton of incredible detail of the events that occurred during the revolt. Particularly interesting is his recap of the conversations among the Special Forces troops who arrived a few hours after the revolt began. It’s also worth noting that Dave the CIA agent is a guy you want on your side in a fight. Not only did he shoot his way out of the initial confrontation with the captured soldiers, but he went on to warn Red Cross workers in the fortress that the revolt was under way and then went back in to hopefully save Mike, the CIA agent who was killed. He wound up protecting a German TV crew stranded inside and escaping along with them in the night. I expect that this will be the last prison revolt article I link to.
