Gregg Easterbrook says that the cost estimates for the new space program proposed by the Bush administration are way too low. Haven’t we arrived at the point where we shouldn’t trust the Bush administration to correctly estimate how much anything will cost? They told us that the costs of invading and occupying Iraq would be about 1/10 of what we’ve currently spent, they lowballed the costs for Afghanistan, and they lowballed the deficits we turned out to have. Everyone should know at this point that they just tell us the numbers that are politically expedient rather than actually providing good faith estimates for anything that might be inconvenient to the chances of returning to office in January 2005.
