I just noticed on Slashdot that Jonathan Avidan has announced RSS version 3. I’m just going to sit back and watch the fireworks on this one.
Update: There’s a different proposal for RSS 3.0 from 2002.

The weird part is that the author claims this is a new updated version of RSS 2 that he considers behind the times, but it doesn’t address two really obvious problems I have with RSS:
the author element still requires an email address. in the age of spam (and RSS!) this is totally pointless. Just let me put in the author’s name
there is no new element for describing tags, which are all over the web and blogs now and there’s no consensus among every service that stuffs tags into RSS. It would have been nice if a repeating “tag” was an option within items.
