&lt;p&gt;I don&#039;t know what Tom&#039;s used to do but I just checked and AdBlockPlus works on Tom&#039;s Hardware no problem and it doesn&#039;t appear that they serve ads from their own server. Although, that does sound like a very interesting &quot;compromise&quot; in that if you block their ads, you also block their images. The user has to decide if the price of admission (viewing ads) is worth the cost (viewing images).&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;If I recall correctly, Tom&#039;s Hardware is Adblock-hostile, as their ads are served from the same location as their regular graphics, so blocking the ads will also block the graphics.
