I love it. I think you are spot on about a great way to lose weight. I lose the Bang Bang app too and it works like a charm. The difficulty was finding out what a light diet was for me. So I just started keeping a journal and tweaked the results.

It's working like a charm. I've been consistently able to lose 3 to 5 pound for the last month, so I'm very pleased with it. Thanks for sharing.

Waiting for a iPhone app that is a scale. Simply step on your phone and it weighs you.

There's an app for that!

I've had my scale for years, but the Soehnle 63702 is the current equivalent:

http://www.amazon.com/Soehnle-63702-Piano-Quattrotronic-Silver/dp/B000FL513K

It has a couple of one star reviews, but I think they're from people who didn't read the directions that came with the scale. You have to tap it to turn it on, and then it balances itself. After balancing, you step onto the scale. If you don't wait for it to balance itself, it will not weigh you accurately.

The Weight Watchers system is a bit different and very smart.

Instead of counting calories, you count points which are much easier to count.

Another difference is that you weigh yourself only once a week.

And it works. At least for some people around me.

I am sure there is a DIY Weight Watchers so you don't have to pay.

Agreed on going hungry, basically on "eat light" days I try to just eat foods that are filling but very low on calories and if I get distractingly hungry, I eat a small snack. My definition of going hungry is pretty loose -- I'm not too tolerant of hunger.

A few months ago I mentioned that I was trying the Line Diet. I've written up the results: http://rc3.org/2010/01/04/the-line-diet/

The one red flag I see in this is the "going hungry" part. Going hungry makes you cranky and can affect your thinking (effectively making you a bit dumber). Exercise is a better option than going hungry.

On the other hand, the single piece of candy trick is a very powerful tool. A small portion of something can satisfy the urge for richness without ruining whatever diet you're on.
