So, I’ve been using Opera 5.0 all day in honor of their releasing their latest version for free, and I must say that I’m very impressed. The browser renders nearly all pages correctly (DIG pages being the notable exception), even those with complex markup and style sheets. I can only assume that pages that render incorrectly contain hacked markup to compensate for deficiencies in IE or Netscape. Opera 5.0 also has excellent cookie management, the only problem is that it’s a bit too complex. For what it’s worth, the Mozilla daily builds and IE for the Mac have perfect cookie management.

If you were considering evaluating an application, and this was the screen shot that the company placed on their Web site, would you bother to download and install the application? Their text editor may be the best thing in the world, but judging from that screen shot, I doubt it. (And I’m an Emacs for Windows NT user!)

Yesterday, a reader sent me a link to a thought provoking Salon article on software reliability. I have lots of thoughts on the article, but I haven’t yet organized them. In the meantime, check out the discussion of the article over at Advogato.

What do you use to rip and organize your MP3s? I have about 200 CDs that are downstairs in my living room instead of in my office at work or in my study at home, and I’d like to rip my favorites and store them where I can listen to them more conveniently. I tried out Media Jukebox, and I hated it. I refuse to use RealJukebox. FreeAmp is pretty good for organizing and playing MP3s, I guess what I’m really looking for is a good ripper. Suggestions?
