After a semi-exhaustive search, I’ve discovered that lowly vim is the best editor for JSP files. I’d love to use Emacs to edit them, but html-helper-mode is semi-bizarre, especially when you add JSP into the mix (I’ll never understand how indenting works in hhm). I realize that HomeSite is the conventional choice, but I’m of the opinion that it’s a bloated piece of crap.

More patent trouble: Worlds.com has been granted a patent on certain aspects of 3D client-server environments. The patent could apply to MMORPGs like EverQuest, Asheron’s Call, and a whole spate of similar upcoming games.

Hey, check it out, real investigative reporting: the Red Herring looks at the madcap IPO market of the past couple of years in a 7 part series that I promise to read once, you know, I have time.

Tim O’Reilly made an insightful post on the FSB mailing list about open source zealotry and other ways to look at recent Microsoft activity. I’m envious of Tim O’Reilly – he always gets to be the voice of reason.

Unsurprisingly, the special gift legislation Billy Tauzin prepared for the RBOCs successfully escaped from committee and will now be unleashed in the House of Representatives for a floor vote. I’m certain that enough cash has been doled out by the RBOCs to ensure passage there as well. The more I learn about government, the more worthless I realize the House really is.

I added links to my Amazon wish list, Launchcast station, and Advogato user page to the right hand column. Don’t lie, you care.

What’s up with going retro these days? There’s a “one year ago” link on Metafilter now. Meg’s talking about reading old content, and Steve is talking about using his weblog as a way to preserve his personal history. I went back and read some old rc3.org content, and the main thing I came away with is that my proofreading sucked. I’m going to steal Matt’s “one year ago” idea because the software I wrote to maintain this site makes it awfully simple to do.
