Compaq is the largest seller of Linux servers. I think that the big boys will do as well in this market as they’ve done in the Windows NT server market, the old Novell server market, and any other market for PC servers. Regardless of what OS you run, the box is the same. The article states that Linux faces stiffer competition from Windows 2000 than it did from NT, but I don’t think that’s very sound thinking. I don’t think that Windows 2000 offers people who are Unix users anything that Windows NT didn’t. It’s prettier and more feature laden, but Windows is Windows and Unix is Unix.
