The New York attorney general deserves kudos, or campaign contributions from the grateful masses, for his decision to sue Network Associates for prohibiting journalists and regular people from testing its products and disclosing the results without prior written approval. These sorts of license agreements are standard in the software “industry,” and are an affront to the law and to common sense. It’s about time somebody finally got up the gumption to sue one of these companies — hopefully such license restrictions will be struck down with extreme prejudice in a federal courtroom soon.
