For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been thinking that war with Iraq has become inevitable. Personally, I think that the timing is downright poor, and our justification is still thin, but we’re seeing the troop movements that have to take place before we could realistically invade, and the media is whipping everyone into a frenzy with breathless reporting of “chemical weapon warheads.” It looks like France and friends are going to take one more shot at heading us off at the pass, though, by trying to extend inspections for months. I still don’t trust the Bush administration to handle this situation well. There’s no doubt in my mind that the US military can win the conflict decisively if given the tools to do so, but the Bush administration sucks as badly at foreign policy as is possible, and I expect them to screw this up as well.
