The Bush administration has appointed several new members to a Presidential commission on AIDS and HIV. They’ve picked a board member from gay/lesbian advocacy group, an AIDS advisor to the world bank, a state public health officer, and some guy who refers to AIDS as the ‘gay plague‘. How’s that for diversity? Jerry Thacker, an employee of Bob Jones University (yes, that one) who suffers from AIDS himself, seems to have some pretty harsh views of AIDS in particular and gay people in general. I guess he’s on the commission to gain support for AIDS research from people who think that gay people are hateful sinners who probably get what they deserve. (A reader sent along this link.)
