I saw a link earlier today to an interesting internal memo from Sun complaining about the implementation of Java on Solaris. Basically, the memo seems to indicate that it’s a big memory hog and that performance sucks, and that the Java team isn’t doing anything about it. Needless to say, if Java doesn’t run well on Solaris, Solaris has big problems. I kind of wonder whether anyone who wanted a desktop Unix box today would go for Solaris over Linux. You’d think that at least Java apps would run better on Solaris than on Linux, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
