Just as it is becoming increasingly obvious that defectors (like the ubiquitous Ahmad Chalabi) played the US government with reports of Iraq’s weapons capabilities, so too did they play the media as well. Jack Shafer has a Slate piece that discusses the reporting of Judith Miller on Iraq’s weapons. Her stories, which provided reports that worked in lockstep with Bush administration claims to advance the theory that Iraq’s weapons made them an imminent threat, are looking more and more, well, fictional as time goes by.
