You call file this as the greatest subhead of the year:
The debt-ceiling debacle revealed that politics is broken in every possible way and there’s no point in explaining complicated matters to the American people.
The column is by Jacob Weisberg at Slate, and I urge you to read the whole thing. It sure feels to me like America has chosen an irreversible path of decline.

I had just got in a better mood. True, it was a mood of resignation, but it was better than the bitter, foul, and poisonous mood that I was in.
Then I read Mr. Weisberg’s article. URGE TO KILL… RISING…

So, the thing that gets me the most about our current situation is that each “side” thinks the other side is the one that’s chosen the irreversible path of decline. Sadly, only one “side” has any numbers to back their decision up.

As I said on Twitter once, everything that the Tea Party hates about America is actually what makes it great.

Taxed Enough Already. You do know that is what the TEA in Tea Party stands for. Call them the tax abatement wing of the American Right. Is tax abatement evil?
Politics isn’t broken. The ability of the President to make a bipartisan coalition on economic issues is broken. If this compromise is the worst of both worlds, that still belongs to the President.

I for one, I don’t feel that we are tax enough already. I’ve always thought the easiest way to get smaller government is to raise taxes. Heck, who wants to cut government when you don’t have to pay for it? It’s a supply and demand thing. If you lower the cost (drop taxes) you’ll get more demand (government services).
Rafe, I would be interested to learn what you feel the Tea Party hates.

As a general rule: immigration, respect for science, and religious tolerance.
