There’s too much stuff going on lately. For example, this weekend’s big story from the computer world was that the W3C is considering allowing the incorporation of patented technologies into standards. This would mean that by implementing one of these standards, you’d have to pay royalties to the patent holder. Let me be blunt: this makes me want to puke. As far as I’m concerned, if this proposal goes through as it is currently written, it would be best for Web developers and software companies to completely ignore any future standards written by the W3C, and perhaps to simply go off and start a completely new standards organization.
